6 DFS 2018 Players Championship Sleeper Picks

on

So I’m back again to help you win money at the Players Championship this week with your DFS squad.

I made a small profit last week based on my backing of Jason Day, who I like this week again. However, Day might be the furthest thing away from a sleeper at the Players Championship this week.

In case you missed my Masters sleepers picks, 2/3 of my picks all under $7K in salary made the cut including Jimmy Walker, who cracked the top 20.

But looking at this week’s options for the Players Championship, there are a ton of attractive mid-range options. I like every DraftKings option in the 8K to 8.5K range. Therefore, we are not going to dip quite so low this week, but all of my sleeper picks still have salaries of $7500 or less.

So who are my Players Championship sleepers for this week? Here they are in ascending salary order.

Martin Kaymer $6900

There’s less of a need to go under $7K this week, but I’m not doing my job if I don’t give you at least one sub-$7K option. And what better option than a player who has won here.

Sure, Kaymer was playing far better when he won the Players Championship in 2014 than he is currently, but he’s got three top-25s on the Euro tour this year and he’s made 11 out of 15 cuts this year. Speaking of made cuts, he’s made the cut all three times here at TPC Sawgrass since his victory. Wanna bet he makes it four in a row?

Alexander Levy $7000

The “island green” at TPC Sawgrass might be one of the more iconic holes on tour. However, it is just one of many holes at the Players Championship where golfers need to worry about splashing it.

Enter Alexander Levy. Quite a few of Levy’s wins on the European tour came on courses with lots of the drink in play. Levy does not play too much on this side of the Atlantic. I think there’s a very good reason he is choosing to make the Players Championship one of his few.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat $7100

Here’s a contrarian pick for you as many players have probably soured on the Barn Rat since he does not have a finish better than T-44 in the last six weeks. Last time I used Aphibarnrat at this price, it worked out pretty well as he made the cut. However, given the likely low ownership, I’m willing to take a chance again.

Ollie Schniederjans $7100

We finally come to a PGA regular! Ollie has not impressed a lot this Spring, but the fact remains that he has made six straight cuts.

Harbour Town also has a lot of water and he finished T-42 there in April. That’s a reasonable expectation this week at the Players Championship. And I do still like his upside, like his T3 at the Waste Management Open earlier this year.

Si Woo Kim $7200

Being a defending champion can be tough. You have extra responsibilities and a target on your back.

But unless there has been major renovations to the course, you obviously know your way around it. So if I can get the Players Championship defending champ at this low of a price, you better believe I’m going to have a share or two of him.

Tony Finau $7500

If you’re looking for a reason to fade him, the fact that he missed the cut both times he has played should be enough. However, Finau is just too hot right now.

He has three top 25s in his last three tournaments including a 66 in the final round both last week at the Wells Fargo and at the Masters. He has five top tens on the year and his stats support it.

He’s 37th SG: Off the Tee and ranks within the top 30 in four stat categories: Approaching the Green, Around the Green, Tee to Green, and SG: Total. He’s been putting better of late, and if he continues to do so, he should notch another top ten this week.
